YOU ARE HERE
July and August 2022
Collective Arts Network (CAN)
Collective Arts Network (CAN) is a nonprofit organization serving the visual arts industry in and around Cleveland, providing a public forum for promotion, reporting, and reviews. Its primary projects are the quarterly print magazine CAN Journal, the website CANjournal.org, its blog, and the e-newsletter CAN Weekly. Additional projects include CAN Triennial, a regionally focused, curated art exhibit.
CAN Triennial is a regionally focused exhibition featuring northeast Ohio artists, selected by an intergenerational and diverse curatorial team, and representing this moment in time, place, and history in Cleveland. Conceived in 2016, the inaugural CAN Triennial took place in 2018. The second CAN Triennial, initially scheduled in 2021, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
CAN TRIENNIAL: YOU ARE HERE
will take place July and August 2022 in more than a dozen venues around Cleveland, Ohio.
CAN Triennial: “You Are Here” is a multi-venue exhibition organized in collaboration with an intergenerational, diverse team of curators from a range of institutional affiliations. The curatorial team will assemble more than a dozen exhibitions that will, at times, examine place and location, and at other times skewer notions of culture and politics, and will also map to discussions around presence and loss. Together, these exhibitions will give us an experiential journey through the literal geography of our city, and the ever-complicated situational understandings of place, context, identity, and–ultimately action.
Curators will select artists from Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Summit, Portage, Geauga, and Lake Counties.
Media include but not limited to:
- performance art
- mixed media, etc.
- Artists must live or work in Cuyahoga or surrounding counties: Cuyahoga, Geauga, Summit, Lake, Lorain, Medina, and Portage.
- When applying, artists may submit previously shown artworks. However, only artworks not previously exhibited will be chosen for the CAN Triennial.
Artwork is selected based on its connection to the theme, You Are Here. CAN Triennial 2022 will showcase the range of art in the region. This is a large scale event in multiple venues. Your art submission will be part of a pool of artists that the curators will select from. Submission does not guarantee selection.
